	In April 1935, the family moved to Charles City, Iowa, where Elmer gained employment at the Oliver Tractor Factory. Their residences in Charles City included dwellings on Jackson Street, Grand Avenue, Wisconsin Street, D Street, and Richings Street . On November 27, 1937, they purchased a home at 807 Jackson Street. In May 1942, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Elmer was employed by the General Mills Mechanical Division until 1945. Their Minneapolis-area residences included 1906 Buchanan Street NE (1942–1949), 2542 Garfield Street NE (1949–1993), and 4458 Reservoir Boulevard in Columbia Heights (1993–1994).
