Elmer T Thorson and Sadie J Woldt were united in marriage at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 1926, at the United Lutheran Church, also known as Decorah Lutheran, in Decorah, Iowa.[1][2] Rev. I. B. Torrison (Professsor Eittrim of Luther College) performed the ceremony.[1][3][4] The bridal party included Louella Thorson as maid of honor, Clarence Thorson as best man, and bridesmaids Anna Nygaard, Elizabeth Istad, and Margaret Burgess.[1][2] Following the service, a reception was held at the River Street home of the bride’s uncle and aunt, Andrew T. and Bertha Istad.[1][2]

Family Life

Between June 1926 and February 1929, the couple resided and worked on the 200-acre Thorson family farm in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa.[1][5][6] In February 1929, they sold their livestock and equipment and relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan, where Elmer worked in the packing and shipping department of the United Steel and Wire factory.[4][5][7][8] Their residences in Battle Creek included an apartment on South Place and houses on Fonda Avenue, including 52 Fonda Avenue.[1][5]

In April 1935, the family moved to Charles City, Iowa, where Elmer gained employment at the Oliver Tractor Factory.[1][7][8] Their residences in Charles City included dwellings on Jackson Street, Grand Avenue, Wisconsin Street, D Street, and Richings Street.[1][5][6] On November 27, 1937, they purchased a home at 807 Jackson Street.[4][2] In May 1942, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Elmer was employed by the General Mills Mechanical Division until 1945.[1][5][7] Their Minneapolis-area residences included 1906 Buchanan Street NE (1942–1949), 2542 Garfield Street NE (1949–1993), and 4458 Reservoir Boulevard in Columbia Heights (1993–1994).[1][7][2]

Children

Elmer and Sadie Thorson had three children:

  • Orrin J Thorson was born on April 11, 1927, at his grandparents' home in West Decorah, Iowa.[1][4][2] He departed this life on February 4, 1930, following a ruptured appendix.[1][2]
  • Donald C Thorson was born on December 22, 1928, at his grandparents' home in West Decorah, Iowa.[1][4][2] He went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2021.
  • Maryon G Thorson was born on February 29, 1936, in the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, Iowa.[1][4][2] She departed this life on August 28, 1969.[1][2]

Later Years

Sadie Thorson entered eternal rest on June 23, 1982, in Minneapolis. Elmer Thorson entered eternal rest on December 8, 1994.
